Awakening 21: Day 8 (and all the other days lol)

Man oh Man God has been doing His thing in this first week of the fast.  I’m soooo excited for this second week!! Can’t wait to see what He will do!! Here are a few of the things God spoke to me through out these last few days!  I pray they bless you (or convict you lol) just like they did me!

“When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ.  Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.  I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.”  ~1 Corinthians 9:22-23

I had to ask myself a couple questions on this one!  Am I doing this?? Do I share in weakness so I can bring more to Christ?  Am I looking for common ground or am I just preaching Christ or Hell and letting the cards fall as they may??? We constantly have to check ourselves to make sure we are looking to bring people to God in love and not through fear… We must do all we can, in keeping with God’s commands of course, to win some for Christ.  Heaven and abundant life here on earth is too good of a deal to keep to ourselves!!!

“Think carefully about what is right and stop sinning…” 1 Corinthians 15:34

This verse made me giggle.  Paul was just so blatant with his rebuking.  Stop sinning! Thats all you gotta do! Simple command but hard to do sometimes.  If we would just look at what causes us to sin, it could be just that easy to stop. Just don’t go with that friend you used to smoke and drink with, don’t go to that place you know you are going to get yourself in trouble going to.  Sometimes its just that simple to just stop, just don’t do it…Not everything is rocket science.

“…for when I am weak, then I am strong.” 1 Corinthians 12:8-10

Praise God for His provision.  He says His grace is enough.  We constantly forget that.  We constantly forget that the battle is not ours, its the Lord’s.  We constantly forget that we don’t have it in us alone to fight but with God we can conquer anything.  Shoot we can scale walls and bend bronze with our God!! (Psalm 18:28-34) . Lord help us not to forget…

“The son of the slave wife was born in a HUMAN attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise.  But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of His promise.” Galatians 4:21-31 and Genesis 16:15; 21:23

This hit me hard.  This is about ambition, our need to try to help God along.  God gives us a promise and instead of waiting for Him to fulfill it we take it upon ourselves to make it happen.  And nothing but strife and issues happen when we do that! Sarah and Hagar ended up fighting with each other and Hagar (the slave wife) along with her child ended up having to leave.  Our own ambitions will always be at odds with the plan and purpose God is trying to execute in our lives.  We have to lay it all down if we really want the blessings and great things He desires for us!  Lord help us!!! Help us to lay all these silly ambitions down so that we can get on with the great work You’ve planned for us.  Help us to remember that whatever you have for us is WAY beyond and better than what we could even imagine or ask for (Eph 3:20)! This is my prayer for all of us ~Amen

And these are only snippets!! Its a wonder what happens when you separate yourself from the world through fasting and connect to God through prayer.  You guys gotta do it!!

Let’s not get kicked out

“‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply.  Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

“For many are called, but few are chosen.

~Matthew 22:12-14

I always wondered about this story and never could understand why the King threw this guy out.  I mean he just picked the dude up off the street, what did he expect??? But now I realize!!

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

This whole story is of the Kingdom of God. The wedding is the a picture of the Kingdom and the King…God.

God calls us but many out rightly refuse or even insult God.  We ignore His calling and we keep pressing towards the demise, oops I mean prize,  that we have been striving for (Matthew 22:5).. We make human attempts at the promises God gives us when only God can fulfill it (Galatians 4:23).Our business, Our education, Our ambitions…

We can be just like those people!  We allow our striving and our goals stand before God’s plan and desire for us.  We take our human attempts and we miss out on the great party of peace and joy that God is preparing for us.

But this guy…He’s the worst.  He came when called but did not prepare for the ceremony.  He didn’t prepare for the occasion.  Many of us hear the call but don’t want to do the real work  to be prepared.  We show up to the race but have not prepared and get disqualified before it even starts.  God has standards and He makes no apologies for what He wants us to do.  He want us to drop everything and follow Him.  He wants holiness.

And just like this man didn’t prepare for the wedding got kicked out we who don’t prepare will not be a part of the great work God called us to do.  God calls us all but only a few really get it and run after him with all our hearts.  And the funny thing is God gives us all we need for life and godliness.

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”~2 Peter  1:3

He calls us and then gives us everything we need to do it.  A friend of mine told me that it was customary that the rich would invite people from the street to weddings and celebrations and actually give them everything they need, including a new outfit to attend the festivities in!!  This man came to the party and didn’t think highly enough of the King to even put on the free clothes he gave him!  This is what we do.  We accept the call and then never accept the free gift of grace and love that God gives us.  We never stop to prepare ourselves through seeking God, seeking His presence and holiness , and actually accepting His grace to actually do all this.

Lord help us.  Help us to see the love and joy you have given us along with the call and promises You made over our lives.  Lord let us not scoff at Your call, let us not ignore it and let us accept all that You give so that we can live our life more abundantly as You desire, full of grace and peace!  ~Amen

Awakening 21: Day 2

Every time I see these verses I have to stop!  There is always something I could be doing that turns into tradition instead of an outpouring of my love for God. It’s all because things can get too familiar and just routine!

Mark 6:6-7  “…These people honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me…”

Whenever we (alright “I”) think of this verse I tend to think oh no, He can’t be talking to me!! He’s talking about those Christians that go to church on Sunday and then live like sons of hell for the next six days!  He can’t be talking about me!! But then conviction sets in…

What about my praying, my worship, my fasting…my fasting….my fasting… (conviction setting in deeper…)  Is this something I do just through tradition? Am I not allowing Him to transform my heart EVERYTIME I fast, pray, worship?

Today, I realized I’ve become too familiar with these things (in particular my fasting)  and they end up as lip service and nothing more.  Fasting every Wednesday is good!! But not when it ends up being nothing but a day of starvation!  My fasting hasn’t been doing what God wants it to do!

He wants our fasting to:

“…Loose the chains of injustice
And untie the cords of the yoke,
To set the oppressed free
And break every yoke…”

He wants our fasting to cause us to:

“…share your food with the hungry and
provide the poor wanderer with shelter…”

Isaiah 58:6-9

If I were honest my fasts don’t produce that at all!  It’s become a good tradition at best!  My prayer in these 21 days is that this fast produces those Isaiah 58 kind of results.  I want this fast to break any and all traditions in favor of knowing God and walking in His Spirit daily!!! Thats my prayer for you too!!! If you are fasting don’t let these 21 days go by without hearing from God!! Be like Jacob and say “I will not let you go unless you bless me!” Let Him change your name and transform your life for greatness!! (Genesis 37:27-28)

What has become tradition in your life???

Awakening 21: Day 1

I’m so excited for these next 21 days!!! God is going to speak amazing things to me and I hope to be able to share some of it with you all! And if you’re fasting too I want to hear what God is saying to you!!!!

I plan to blog about what God speaks to me through His Word and I pray that we can have great discussions about it!!!

Here’s a little of my reflections today:

Romans 9:10-12

“…This message shows that God chooses people according to His own purposes; He calls people, but not according to their good or bad works…”

God calls us all and sets us apart for greatness but not because of how good or bad we were or are right now.  He chose us before the beginning of time because He loved us. He bankrupted heaven and ransomed His Son just for us.  Check out Matthew 13:44-45 and look at it in a different way.  That man is God, that treasure = us, and the money He used to purchase that field = JESUS!  God bankrupted heaven for US!  He bankrupted heaven because of His love for us!! This takes the pressure off of life for real!  I’m (YOU ARE) called just because He loved me (YOU) and wants me (YOU) to walk in His plan for me (YOU)…and He bankrupted heaven so that we can have a chance to walk in it!

By the way…if you are interested in joining in with me in this fast (doesn’t neccessarily have to be food) check this website out:

Winning through Worship

Acts 16:25-26
”Around midnight Paul and Silas were PRAYING and SINGING hymns TO God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the CHAINS of every prisoner FELL OFF!”

Freedom from every bondage comes through worship and one person’s worship is powerful enough to loose chains of those around us. Worship is a powerful weapon we must all use. If there is something we want to get rid of, something that is holding us back from what we really want and need – be it sickness, pain, anger, sadness, etc..- begin to worship the one true God and see the chains fall off. The story of Joshua and the wall of Jericho is one prime example. The wall of Jericho was an immense structure that kept everything the people of Jericho wanted out, out.  That wall was the one thing holding the Israelites from the conquering the land God promised them and it came down with a shout of victory, a shout of praise (Joshua 6:15-17).  The Israelites won battle after battle because they worshiped God before each battle.  And when they lost…it was because they did not honor God first before going out. Sometmes we are caught up by those proverbial walls that hold us back from that “one thing.”

What is that “one thing” you’re fighting for today???

Remember this our battles are won with worship…they are NOT won by might or by power but by the spirit of the living God revealed through worship. Fight for that “one thing”. Fight for your freedom, your happiness, your peace, your hope, your victory….

Through worship
